The following is an excerpt from my trip report submitted to Northern Marianas College, highlighting key takeaways, insights, and creative inspiration gained from attending Adobe MAX — The Creativity Conference.
The demand for fresh content has never been higher, and this isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Today’s consumers expect content that matches their personal interests and speaks directly to them. To meet this need, creators must focus on crafting meaningful, relevant experiences, tailored to the diverse preferences of their audiences.
Does Speed = Efficiency?
You’ve probably heard about generative AI and its power to create content in seconds (a quick Google search shows how powerful it is). But while this speed can be thrilling, it brings up a crucial question: does efficiency alone make our work meaningful? For years, our ads have connected with the community, not because they were produced quickly but because they were crafted with intention—highlighting real students, real stories, and real faces. Focusing on humanity is crucial as we consider our students’ needs in a changing educational landscape.
Today’s students have on-demand access to countless resources and seek experiences that feel personal and meaningful. At NMC, I believe we should deliver more than just convenience; we should aim to offer an experience that resonates with their goals and aspirations. By blending technology with authenticity, we can meet students where they are and support them on their journey. By embracing these values, NMC stands out—not through flashy ads, but through genuine connections and shared purpose. This is the future of education: merging innovative tools with timeless, human-centered values to ensure every message, story, and student journey is memorable.
Harnessing the Power of Film: Storytelling
Storytelling is one of the most effective ways to connect, inspire, and engage. By sharing real stories of students, faculty, and alumni, we bring our college’s mission to life. These personal narratives show the heart of our campus community, transforming statistics and achievements into relatable experiences that resonate with future students and their families.
It’s important to acknowledge the challenges faced by our community—academic, financial, and personal—and to focus on how our college provides a path forward. By highlighting these journeys, we show prospective students that our college is a place where they can find support, overcome obstacles, and achieve their goals. This sense of hope and possibility makes our message powerful and uplifting. Emotion is the bridge that turns interest into commitment. When prospective students and families hear authentic stories of growth and success, they feel a connection that goes beyond words. Each story draws them closer to imagining themselves as part of our college community, inspired by the achievements and resilience of those who’ve walked this path.
The strength of our college lies in its people. We have over 1,300 unique stories waiting to be told—stories that showcase the individual journeys, challenges, and triumphs. Instead of just promoting programs and departments, we can focus on those who bring them to life—our students, faculty, and alumni. By spotlighting individuals and their contributions, we present an authentic view of our college’s impact, demonstrating how each person makes a difference. Every story should encourage a call to action, showing prospective students how they can be part of something meaningful.
Whether it’s joining a community that values resilience, pursuing a field of study with purpose, or finding support to achieve their goals, our storytelling approach can turn inspiration into engagement, inviting viewers to make our college their next chapter.
